Levels of Care
STR Lehigh Valley offers PHP and IOP — two structured levels of outpatient care that bridge the gap between residential treatment and traditional outpatient therapy, designed to meet each client’s needs at every stage of recovery.
Partial Hospitalization Program
STR Lehigh Valley’s PHP runs Monday through Friday, providing structured, comprehensive care. Clients receive individual therapy twice weekly and a weekly psychiatric evaluation with ongoing follow-ups throughout their treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Program
STR Lehigh Valley’s IOP offers focused process groups, practical education, life skills application, and relapse prevention. Available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with day and evening options, IOP provides weekly individual therapy sessions and monthly psychiatric evaluations and follow-ups.

What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) are both structured outpatient levels of care, but they differ in intensity and time commitment. PHP at STR Lehigh Valley runs Monday through Friday and provides the highest level of outpatient structure — ideal for those stepping down from residential care or who need more support than IOP can offer. IOP meets three days per week with day and evening options available, and is designed for those who are stable enough to manage more independence while continuing to build recovery skills.
How long is PHP or IOP at STR Lehigh Valley?
Length of stay at STR Lehigh Valley is individualized based on each client’s clinical, medical, and social needs. There is no predetermined timeline — because every person’s journey is unique, treatment continues as long as it is clinically appropriate. The treatment team, in collaboration with the client and their loved ones, determines the appropriate length of stay. For those using insurance, the duration of care is also subject to insurance approvals.
Does STR Lehigh Valley offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
Yes. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is available at every level of care at STR Lehigh Valley when clinically appropriate. MAT combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a whole-person approach to substance use disorder treatment.
Can STR Lehigh Valley help with my FMLA, disability, or legal matters?
Yes. STR Lehigh Valley offers care management services, including assistance with FMLA, short-term disability, and legal matters. Clients meet with their care manager weekly. Please note that long-term disability assistance is not available through this program.
