Frequently Asked Questions
What is a PHP program?
A partial hospitalization program (PHP), often called “day treatment,” provides intensive outpatient care for individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) or mental illness. PHPs offer structured therapy for several hours a day — typically five to seven days a week — allowing clients to return home in the evenings.
As a level of care, PHP is more intensive than an intensive outpatient program (IOP) but less intensive than residential treatment.
How long does a PHP last?
Most PHPs last at least six weeks, but the duration varies based on symptom severity, treatment goals, and individual progress.
What conditions does a PHP treat?
PHPs offer specialized treatment for substance use disorders and complex mental health issues, often serving individuals whose symptoms haven’t improved with traditional outpatient care.
PHP with STR
STR’s partial hospitalization programs bridge the gap between the intensity of residential treatment and the freedoms of conventional outpatient programs. While PHPs maintain a highly structured treatment schedule, clients are not required to live on-site. This flexibility allows clients to return home each evening, creating space to manage job responsibilities, start a job search, spend time with family, or connect with a recovery community.
