Frequently Asked Questions
What is an IOP?
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a structured treatment program for addiction and mental health recovery, offering more support than standard outpatient care without requiring residential treatment. Clients attend weekly therapy sessions with a clinician, plus a monthly psychiatric evaluation and follow-up.
Who is a good fit for an IOP?
An IOP is best for individuals who need structured support for addiction or mental health recovery but don’t require 24/7 IOPs are ideal for individuals who need structured support but do not require residential care. They are a good fit for:
- Those transitioning from inpatient or residential treatment
- Individuals needing more support than standard outpatient therapy
- People balancing treatment with work, school, or family
- Those with a stable, supportive living environment
- Individuals motivated to engage in therapy and group sessions
IOPs offer flexibility while providing intensive care, making them a strong option for those committed to recovery but able to live independently.
How long is an IOP?
The length of an IOP depends on individual needs. The initial duration is set during the treatment planning process at admission and may be adjusted as recovery progresses. While some individuals complete an IOP in a few weeks, others may benefit from several months of support.
Does insurance cover an IOP?
Insurance may cover an IOP if it is deemed medically necessary. During the admissions process, a medical assessment is conducted to determine eligibility and establish medical necessity for insurance justification. Before treatment begins, the facility will verify your insurance and provide a detailed breakdown of coverage, benefits, and any out-of-pocket costs.
IOP with STR
Our outpatient locations offer IOP services with flexible scheduling options, allowing clients to live at home or within our supportive housing community.
Eligibility is determined through a medical assessment before entry, which also helps establish “medical necessity” for insurance coverage. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan, with program duration based on personal needs and outlined during the admissions process.
Clients receive therapy and ongoing guidance to support progress, including:
+ Individual therapy sessions
+ Group therapy
+ Family therapy
+ Medication Management
+ Case Management
+ Peer Support
