Why PHP Works
Decades of clinical evidence support partial hospitalization (PHP) as an effective level of care for adults with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders, particularly for those who need more structure than traditional outpatient care but are ready to begin reintegrating into daily life.
STR Behavioral Health’s PHP combines clinical intensity with real-world flexibility, giving clients the support they need while building the independence that lasting recovery requires.
What to Expect in PHP
STR Behavioral Health’s partial hospitalization program (PHP) delivers comprehensive care built around each client’s unique needs. It includes individual and group therapy, medication management, family programming, and care management, all coordinated by an experienced multidisciplinary team committed to meaningful progress.
While PHP maintains a highly intensive treatment schedule, clients are not required to live on-site. This flexibility allows individuals to return home each evening, creating space to manage work, spend time with family, and stay connected to their community throughout treatment. For those who benefit from additional stability, STR Bucks County’s supportive housing offers a safe, supportive living environment alongside PHP.
At STR Behavioral Health, the measure of success is the lives changed. Here’s what clients and families have to say.
“STR Behavioral Health is a great place to be if you're looking to recover from drugs, alcohol, mental health challenges, or other process addictions. They have the resources to provide housing to those in need so that a person can focus on themselves. The STR staff is invaluable and has always been willing to go out of their way to help when asked.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a PHP program?
A partial hospitalization program (PHP), often called “day treatment,” provides intensive outpatient care for individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) or mental illness. PHPs offer structured therapy for several hours a day — typically five to seven days a week — allowing clients to return home in the evenings.
As a level of care, PHP is more intensive than an intensive outpatient program (IOP) but less intensive than residential treatment.
How long does a PHP last?
Most PHPs last at least six weeks, but the duration varies based on symptom severity, treatment goals, and individual progress.
What conditions does a PHP treat?
PHPs offer specialized treatment for substance use disorders and complex mental health issues, often serving individuals whose symptoms haven’t improved with traditional outpatient care.
Other Levels of Care
STR Behavioral Health offers a comprehensive continuum of care — from medical detox and residential treatment to PHP, IOP, and supportive housing. No matter where someone is in their recovery, the right level of support is here.
Residential Treatment
Intensive, live-in treatment with a low client-to-staff ratio, 24/7 clinical support, and individualized care in a structured, healing environment.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
A multi-day treatment program offering more structure and clinical support than traditional outpatient therapy, designed for clients managing work, education, and family responsibilities.
Supportive Housing
A safe, structured living environment where clients build community, develop independence, and access the resources needed to sustain long-term recovery.
Take the next step toward healing. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
