Levels of Care
STR Exton offers PHP and IOP — two structured levels of outpatient care that bridge the gap between residential treatment and traditional outpatient therapy, designed to meet each client’s needs at every stage of recovery.
Partial Hospitalization Program
STR Exton’s PHP provides a higher level of clinical support and structure while clients continue living in the community. Programming includes five hours per day, Monday–Friday, with services such as individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, case management, and peer support.
Intensive Outpatient Program
STR Exton’s IOP provides flexible three-hour treatment sessions, available three or five days per week during the daytime. Clients receive therapy and ongoing guidance to support progress, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, case management, and peer support.
What We Treat
STR Exton specializes in outpatient treatment for adults with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders through PHP and IOP levels of care.
How We Treat
No two paths to recovery look the same — so no two treatment plans at STR Exton look the same. The clinical team draws on a range of evidence-based approaches to develop a plan built around each client’s diagnosis, history, and goals. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PHP + IOP at STR Exton?
PHP (partial hospitalization) and IOP (intensive outpatient) are two levels of outpatient care that differ in intensity and time commitment. PHP is the higher level, with programming five hours per day, Monday through Friday, for clients who need more structure and clinical support while living at home. IOP is more flexible, with three-hour sessions offered three or five days per week, making it a strong fit for clients stepping down from PHP or balancing treatment with work and family. Both levels at STR Exton include individual, group, and family therapy, medication management, case management, and peer support.
How long is PHP or IOP at STR Exton?
Length of care depends on each client’s clinical needs, progress, and goals, so there is no single fixed timeline. Many clients begin in PHP and step down to IOP as they stabilize, then continue in IOP before transitioning to ongoing outpatient support. The clinical team reviews each treatment plan regularly and adjusts the level of care as a client progresses. This individualized approach ensures clients move through care at a pace that supports lasting change rather than a predetermined schedule.
Does STR Exton offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
Yes. STR Exton offers medication-assisted treatment at every level of care when it is clinically appropriate. MAT combines FDA-approved medications with therapy and clinical support to treat substance use disorders, reduce cravings, and support recovery. A psychiatric provider evaluates each client to determine whether MAT is a fit as part of their individualized treatment plan.
Can STR Exton help with my FMLA, disability, or legal matters?
STR Exton’s team can provide documentation and coordinate with employers, providers, and other parties to support clients navigating FMLA, disability, or related matters. Case management is a core part of programming at both PHP and IOP levels, and the team works to reduce the practical barriers that can make it hard to prioritize treatment. Clients are encouraged to discuss their specific needs with the admissions or clinical team so the right support can be arranged early in care.
Is STR Exton LGBTQIA+-affirming?
Yes. STR Exton is a proud LGBTQIA+-affirming program, and STR Behavioral Health is nationally recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for its commitment to affirming care. Clinicians are trained in LGBTQIA+-affirming practice and facilitate dedicated process groups where clients can explore identity and find community. Every client’s identity is treated as a core part of who they are and a meaningful part of their recovery.
